Rhur University, Bochum 1961
My advisor recommended I study this scheme, similar to what I am proposing for the update of the Killam Library with my thesis. In this scheme a large one level plane unites a series of multi story structures. For me the result is similar to that of a computer chip when viewed from above.
If I can relate the core ideas of this scheme, connectivity, to the development of the Dalhousie university campus then I would highlight the addition of the LSC building and tunnel system which joined various historical buildings including the new library during the early 70s. This was a device which also intended to unite various elements of the campus into one whole, in this case the connection device navigated existing structures, where in the Bochum sceme the campus was created ‘new’.
